ABC Hunts for Its Own Domestic Doyenne

CBS is already searching for Martha Stewart Version 2.0. ABC, apparently also sensing that America yearns for someone to tell it how to tend an herb garden and make fancy centerpieces, is taking up the cause too.

The network is working on a two-night special called "The Great Domestic Showdown" to air May 25 and 26, the final two nights of sweeps. Six contestants will show off their cooking, entertaining, decorating and event-planning abilities in hopes of winning a book deal and a shot at hosting their own TV show.

ABC's search will be on the air well before CBS', which is being produced by LMNO Productions ("The Littlest Groom") and looks to be a more drawn-out, vote-them-off affair. Neither show mentions Stewart, convicted in March of lying to federal investigators and obstruction of justice in a securities-fraud case.

Whether the ABC and CBS champions face off in some sort of pay-per-view homemaking hootenanny is yet to be determined.

"Loveline" and former "Man Show" host Adam Carolla will serve as host for "The Great Domestic Showdown." Sandra Lee (Food Network's "Semi-Homemade"), L.A. chef Govind Armstrong and Discovery Channel host Robert Verdi ("Surprise by Design") will judge the contenders.

The winner gets a book deal and a guaranteed appearance on "a national TV talk show," ABC says. He or she could also earn a chance at building a Stewart-esque empire through a TV-hosting gig.

Barry Josephson ("The Ladykillers," "The Tick"), Mindy Moore ("The Family") and John Saade ("Mr. Show") are the executive producers.
